create your own water feature

Shopping list:

An underground sump, we bought a large plstic basin (R45) from Plastics for Africa
Two cement bricks on which to place the heavy pot
A multifunctional water pump, abel to push up a jet of water anout 1.5m high with 0,5m of plastic tubing. We bought both for R219 at De LaRey
A strong steel grid or a piece of mesh

Get Started:

  1. Bury the plastic basin so that the edge is level with the surface of the soil
  2. Place the two cement bricks upright and slightly apart in the basin
  3. Connecet the plastic tubing to the suction side of the pump and carefully place it between the bricks
  4. Place the mesh or grid over the bricks and basin and pull tubing through
  5. Connect the plastic tubing to the water feature's copper-pipe inlet
  6. Cover the mesh with a piece of landscape matting or shade cloth to prevent the pebbles that you will be placing around the water feature from falling into the basin. Move the water feature into position
  7. Arrange ornamental pebbles aruond the base of the water feature. Fill the underground sump and the water feature with water and switch on the pump.
(use a tall, square potplant in a brown / rusty colour)
