noot vir noot

I have to admit, I also do a couple of Johan Stemmet rip off's every now and again...

But: I have to give credit where credit is due.

Noot vir Noot has OUTLASTED, OUTWITTED and OUTPLAYED (in the words of Survivor) all the other game/ TV shows!

South Africa went through this copy cat streak, we remixed various American / British shows..the list is endless (...and ongoing):

  • MTN Gladiators
  • Survivor
  • The Weakest Link
  • Big Brother
  • Idols
  • and the latest: "Deal or no Deal"
But how many of them lasted as long as Noot vir Noot? None! How many are still interesting...a select few...

Who knew the simple plot of the Afrikaans game show would survive?
Four contestants guess the names of songs, A presenter dressed in coloured shirts and waist coats, throw in a couple of catch phrases:

"R50 vir jou!"

"Hey! Kyk hoe kyk sy vir my, hey.."

Added to that is the "musiek fabriek" with that weird dude playing drums in the background who always tries to catch some lime light behind Johan's back...

En Siedaar! You have a recipe for success..a South African boere resep helping of TV goes down well in the South African household...chase that with some original mampoer and a side dish of bobotie, and you will make a boere heart really happy...

I think it all has to do with being original and true to your roots...

The show did not try to be like anybody else, I guess that also adds to the success? There was no show like it, so one can not compare it to anything? I would like to see some Brit out there trying to copy Noot vir Noot...Ha ha ha, I think Casper de Vries made a joke about that once.

Proudly South African campaigners: this would be a great angle for you...TAKE NOTES (excuse the pun)
